Class Information & Events

April 26th - SEATTLE, WA - 15th Annual WORLD RHYTHM FESTIVAL - José Carrión & ¡Todo Folklore Cubano! will be performing at the Saturday Night Dance Party, 7:30 - 10:00 pm; Center House stage, Seattle Center, www.swps.org 

May 2nd - OLYMPIA, WA - Minnaert Center for the Arts, South Puget Sound Community College - José Carrión & ¡Todo Folklore Cubano! will be performing in the Main Theater at 8:00 pm, tickets can be purchased online at www.spscc.ctc.edu/CFA or call 360.596.5501; $15, $10 Staff & Seniors, $5 Students.

FREE SHOW!!! Noon - 1:00 pm, SUB, South Puget Sound Community College - José Carrión & ¡Todo Folklore Cubano! This free performance will be followed by two FREE workshops -Drumming (1:30 - 2:45) and Dancing (3:00 - 4:15).

NEW CLASSES - 2008:

***ORISHAS + OTHER AFRO-CUBAN-HAITIAN DANCE WITH LIVE PERCUSSION

In this class, Jose will focus on dance technique, isolation & body movement based on AFRO-CUBAN-HAITIAN rhythms. In addition to Orishas, he'll also teach dances from the Kongo (palo, yuka & makuta) and well as some of the Cuban-Haitian dances (gaga, vodu, congo laye & masun). The classes will be accompanied by a group of talented musicians. Jose will use a similar approach to that which he used in Cuba to train the members of his former dance troupe, Ballet Folklorico Cutumba. Tuesday nights, 7:45 - 9:00.

Venues & Prices: 

All classes are held at our home in Wallingford at 4812 Burke Avenue North, Seattle  98103, unless otherwise noted.

The classes listed are all dance classes except the Tuesday night Conga Santiaguera percussion class & the Monday night Rumba percussion class. Other Afro-Cuban & Afro-Haitian percussion & dance classes can be arranged by individuals and/or groups with 3+ people.

***Important: José reserves the right to cancel class if less than 3 people show up. You're welcome to call ahead (206.632.8559) if you'd like to confirm.

$18 drop-in; $15/class with 10-class punch card; no credit cards!

Monday nights:  Rumba dance (6:15 - 7:30) & Rumba percussion (7:45 - 9:00). Please contact Jose ahead of time if you're interested in the percussion class; no drop-ins.

Tuesday nights:  Conga Santiaguera percussion (6:15 - 7:30) & ORISHAS /Afro-Cuban-Haitian dance with live percussion (7:45 - 9:00)

Wednesday nights:  Cuban Son (6:15 - 7:30)

*** No partners needed in any of the classes. No prior dance or percussion experience is necessary. EVERYONE IS WELCOME!!!
